The Computer Science Department at Cornell University and Ithaca High School will again invite teams of high school students from across New England to compete in the fourth annual Cornell University High School Programming Contest to be held April 7 on campus. The event is not open to the public.
This year 12 teams will compete from the Dalton School, Nichols School, Fairport, Webster, Pittsford, Bishop Hendricken, Brighton, Half Hollow Hills, McQuaid Jesuit, Allendale Columbia, and Ithaca High School. The contest and program will be held noon to 5 pm with opening remarks in Gates Hall G01 (noon to 1:00 pm), contest in Gates Hall computer labs ground floor from 1:00-4:00 pm, and awards ceremony from 4:00-5 pm in G01. In the same format as intercollegiate programming contests, teams will compete to solve eight programming problems in a limited time. The winner is the team that solves the most problems in the allotted three hours. The challenge is one of strategy as well as programming skill, as a team must decide which problems it can solve most rapidly.
