What do you get when you put 500 innovative college students together with technology for three days? Some really cool and innovative projects from Big Red//Hacks! On September 16-18 students from across the Northeast will gather to make new products that are judged on creativity, technical difficulty, aesthetics, potential and demonstration. This year’s theme is sustainability. Student organizers Junia George, Matthew Hsu, and Austin Liu are instrumental in bringing a hackathon culture to Cornell and for motivating students to come up with new ideas and then create them.
"BigRed//Hacks is in it's third year and bigger than ever!" said Junia George. "The weekend fosters a feeling of community where everyone strives to meet new limits, and this year we're pushing it a bit further by offering a prize for students who choose to create a sustainability-related hack. It's a weekend of learning new skills and working with students and mentors with similar interests, all to create a cool project to present at the end."
Hacking starts the evening of September 16 and projects are shown at the expo on Sunday morning followed by the award ceremony from noon to 2 pm in Call Auditorium of Kennedy Hall. Admission and food is free for all participants thanks to over 24 sponsors for Big Red//Hacks, including the CIS Computer Science Department.
