High School Programmers to Compete for Third Year at Cornell

The Computer Science Department at Cornell University and Ithaca High School will again invite teams of high school students from across New York state to compete in the third annual Cornell University High School Programming Contest to be held April 7 on campus. The event is not open to the public but members of the media are welcome to attend.

This year 13 teams will compete from Fairport, Pittsford, Webster Schroeder, Bishop Hendricken, and Ithaca High School. The contest and program will be held 11 am to 5 pm with intro from 11-12, contest in Carpenter Hall Rooms 235, 236 and 237 from 12:30-3:30, and awards ceremony from 3:30-5 pm. In the same format as intercollegiate programming contests, teams will compete to solve eight programming problems in a limited time. The winner is the team that solves the most problems in the allotted three hours. The challenge is one of strategy as well as programming skill, as a team must decide which problems it can solve most rapidly.
