CIS Hosts Girls High School Programming Contest This Weekend

The 2020 Girls High School Programming Contest, open to all high school girls, will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, on the Ithaca and Cornell Tech campuses.

The event will include an hourlong introduction to programming contests, as well as a collection of programming problems ranging from very easy to medium-hard. The simultaneous events in Ithaca and New York City, from noon to 4:30 p.m., will be linked via video.

The aim of the Girls High School Programming Contest, now in its second year, is to increase girls’ participation in Cornell’s annual High School Programming Contest, which is open to all and will be held April 3. Last year, female students from more than 20 high schools in upstate New York and New York City participated in the girls’ contest.

Participants will be grouped into teams of three, based on their levels of programming experience. During the contest, teaching assistants will help students recognize and solve problems through traditional debugging techniques. The team that solves the most problems wins.
